One man’s mission to engage his community with a passion for walking football

You can clearly see the seaside town of Cangas from the ferry terminal on the south bank of the Ria de Vigo. Dip into your pocket for €3 euros and you can hop across in 10 mins and save yourself a 26KM drive around the estuary.

An out of date ( 2024) population census has the inhabitants of Cangas at 26,731. It is also home to one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever visited and the most picturesque football ground I have ever played at.

I went to meet and stay with a likeminded fellow, a man whose passion and drive for all things Walking Football is as fierce as I have encountered. A man so driven that he has turned a community project started from scratch into the talk of the town. He has impacted so many lives in such a positive way that you can’t walk more than 10 yards without someone stopping him to talk about Fútbol A Pé.José Maria Rial is a special human being, an engaging man, intelligent, self-deprecating and amusing. I arrived a stranger and left as a friend. His story is a great one, enjoy the videos.
