Successful turnout and great atmosphere at the 2nd International Walking Football Tournament in Seville

Walking Lions from Getxo beat Híspalis in the men’s final and in the women’s final
Yesterday, Saturday, the Vega de Triana Sports Centre hosted the 2nd International Walking Football Tournament in Seville, organised by the Íberas Sevilla Walking Football women’s club and the Walking Football Híspalis men’s club. Walking Lions from Getxo were crowned champions after beating -1 against the local team Híspalis in the final. Third place went to the French team All Stars Saint Porchaire after beating the Portuguese team Quarteirense 3-0 in the men’s category.
The women’s final was won 1-0 by Walking Betis against Íberas Sevilla “Negras”. Third place in the women’s competition went to Íberas Sevilla “Moradas”, after beating Algarve Andurinhas Football Club 1-0. The men’s team that won the fair play award was WF Barcelona, while the women’s award went to Portugal’s Andurinhas. Walking football is a sport especially aimed at older people in which running is not allowed and the ball cannot be kicked above head height. It encourages people of all ages to take part in sport, with six outfield players plus a goalkeeper, and is becoming increasingly popular among this age group in Spain and Europe.
The City of Seville International Tournament was a resounding success in terms of participation and attendance in the women’s over-40 and men’s over-50 categories. Eight teams in each gender participated, coming from the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Andalusia, with a large support team for organisation, refereeing, medical care and volunteering, sponsored by the Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government and various collaborating companies. Our goalkeeper Susana won the trophy for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded, and the top scorer trophy went to Arancha Cadiz from Walking Betis.
