A GOAL FOR LIFE. WALKING FOOTBALL IN ANDALUSIA
A GOAL FOR LIFE Walking football isn’t very well known in Spain yet, but it will be. It’s about playing football without running. This adapted sport allows people of all fitness levels to participate; it’s an inclusive sport. One of the few women’s teams in Spain is in Seville: Club Deportivo Íberas Sevilla Walking Football. More than just a sports team, it’s a meeting place and a source of empowerment. Club Deportivo Íberas is the first officially registered women’s Walking Football club in Andalusia, made up entirely of local players. This milestone breaks with the tradition of this sport in Spain, which has been dominated until now by foreign residents on the coast. Walking football is a form of football that originated in England, with the idea that people of a certain age who had stopped playing football due to health problems or fear of injury could continue to enjoy the sport. Contact is prohibited, tackles from behind are not allowed, heading the ball is forbidden, the goalkeeper is protected by an area that cannot be entered, and the game is played with a three-touch limit. It’s a very participatory sport because the three-touch limit forces everyone to participate, making it very inclusive and social.
