Team Spain Ladies Unite for World Cup Preparations

The Spanish sunshine wasn’t the only thing converging on Pilar de la Horadada this past weekend as the National Ladies Walking Football Team assembled from every corner of Spain for an intensive training camp. With the World Nations Cup looming this October in Torrevieja, the squad dedicated themselves to fine-tuning their skills and forging crucial team bonds.

The ladies demonstrated remarkable commitment, traveling significant distances solely for the love of the game and the honour of representing their country.

The weekend kicked off Friday evening with a focused technical training session. Under the watchful eyes of Glynn Hague, Richard Coleman and Jeff Lee precise passing, controlling the ball, defensive positioning and tactical awareness were all put under the microscope. The session laid the essential groundwork for the competitive action to follow.

Saturday transformed theory into practice and the morning training session was dedicated to a series of competitive 6 v 6 games with the aid of 2 of our local referees Kevin Leonard and Shaun Hill. The ladies eagerly implemented the lessons from the previous evening, testing strategies, building on-field chemistry, and pushing each other in a dynamic, match-realistic environment. The intensity was high, reflecting the significance of the upcoming World Cup challenge.

The ladies paused their on-field battles to share a fantastic, communal paella lunch. This quintessential Spanish experience provided more than just sustenance; it was a valuable opportunity for laughter, shared stories, and strengthening the unique camaraderie essential for a national team drawn from different clubs and regions.

Refreshed and refuelled, the afternoon started with a dedicated Pilates session. Recognising the importance of core strength, flexibility, and injury prevention the ladies engaged in exercises designed to enhance their physical resilience and overall athletic performance.

The day concluded as it began: with more 6 v 6 games allowing the ladies to consolidate their learning and solidify partnerships. The energy remained high, fueled by the combination of technical work, team bonding, and physical conditioning.

By the time the whistle blew on the final game the ladies didn’t only have tired legs, but a reinforced sense of unity, refined tactics, and a heightened anticipation for the global stage awaiting them in Torrevieja this October. Many of them had never met before this weekend but they left as comrades with a common goal. The Spanish Ladies Walking Football Team is firmly on the path to World Nations Cup readiness.
