Team Spain Men’s training in Marbella
The Estadio Arroyo Primero in Marbella, was the focal point for all things Walking Football last Saturday where the cream of the nations crop battled it out for coveted places in the international representative team squads for this years FIWFA World Nations Cup.
Team Spain +50 & +60 age group hopefuls were joined by three teams from Andalusia in the shape of Marbella & two sides from Walking Balompie Sevilla to play a series of matches in Sahara like temperatures.
The Marbella Town Hall kindly offered the facility for free in support of the emerging sport and businessmen and local footballers, Marcello Maiorana & Andres Vallejo set up the pitches and provided a Paella lunch for all participants.
The 20 minute matches were closely contested and VEO technology recorded the action. Team Spain 50s justified their selection by winning all their games and only conceding one goal but Sevilla in particular showed that they also have players to consider for future events with some excellent performances.
As it was a training camp the scores were of secondary importance but with spaces up for grabs and an imminent squad cull on the horizon the games were ultra competitive.
A delegation led by Councillor Lisandro Veites came by to take a curious look at the event and spent some time asking questions and discussing the potential for the sport in the community.
As the event drew to a close, everyone agreed it to have been a great success and a fitting way for the training camps to finish ahead of the summer break.
The session was played in accordance with the World Nations Cup format 6 v 6 multitouch over 20 minutes.
